Ellicott City Real Estate

Ellicott City seems to incorporate the best things in life—a great community atmosphere, terrific amenities, a rich cultural heritage, fantastic schools and an amazing real estate market. As the county seat of Howard County, Ellicott City has long been known as a picturesque place to live, work and play.
Ellicott City’s nearly 60,000 residents have much to be thankful for. The thriving local economy is bolstered by a historic “Old Ellicott City”, or downtown area, where visitors and residents alike enjoy shopping in the city’s wide array of boutique shops and antique stores between stops for a bite to eat or drink at one of the many restaurants, coffee shops and taverns. Columbia, Ellicott City’s neighbor, is a panned community of 10 residential villages that includes its own town center, offers additional shopping opportunities and is the home of notable high-tech companies such as Northrop Grumman, Arbitron and Merkle.
Founded in 1772, Ellicott City’s many historic landmarks and notable architecture provide a wonderful landscape compliment to the four seasons of weather that punctuates the calendar with days crisp and clear winter air, lush green vistas of the spring, sunny summer afternoons and the bright colors of the fall. With so much beauty to enjoy its only natural that the Ellicott City area has plenty of ways to get out and enjoy it. Only two to three hours from the mountains to the west and the oceanfront beaches to the east, living in Ellicott City is ideal for the outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy mountain biking, hiking, boating, fishing and much more. Golfers enjoy easy access to over forty 18-hole courses within a 40 minute drive, with four of them located within a 5 minute drive. Of course, Columbia’s skateboard park, three lakes and 950-acre nature preserve are even closer to home to enjoy the weather.
Additional cultural amenities in the Ellicott City include access to some of America’s most important historical sites that are only two hours or less away. From the Gettysburg Battlefield in Pennsylvania, to Washington, D.C., Ellicott City residents have ample opportunities to explore our nation’s history. Professional sporting events compliment the active social calendar of fairs and festivals in Ellicott City. Residents regularly catch a Baltimore Orioles or Nationals (MLB), Ravens or Redskins (NFL), Wizards (NBA) and Capitals (NHL) game with friends and family.
But living in Ellicott City isn’t all about playing; the residents here know how to get down to business, too. Many of Ellicott City’s residents travel to the fantastic employment opportunities provided by Baltimore and other nearby cities before returning home to the peace of their homes. Students in Ellicott City and Columbia enjoy an enriched education provided by the county’s school district—the top ranking in Maryland. Ellicott City has two of the best of the honored school district—Centennial High School and Mt. Hebron High School—and the recent addition of Marriott’s Ridge High School provide students an excellent education.
Ellicott City and Columbia’s schools are not the only aspects of the communities to be recognized. Money Magazine considered both together when naming them among their list of Top 10- Best Places to Live. Once you have visited Ellicott City and Columbia, exploring its many exciting communities and neighborhoods like Burleigh Manor and Dunloggin, which feature real estate options that range from entry-level condos, town homes, single family homes and on up to multi-million dollar estate homes you are sure to agree with the accolades!
